About
the School
The High Road Academy of Washington D.C. is located in the heart
of the city, just a couple blocks north of Dupont Circle. However,
the location is just a small taste of what the High Road Academy
has to offer. We offer services to students with the primary
classification of Learning Disabled. The success of our program
stems from our small teacher to student ratio. Typically, our
classrooms range from ten to twelve students led by a certified
teacher and a teacher’s assistant. In addition, we offer
related services to our students including psychotherapy (both
individual and group), speech, language, and occupational therapy.
In order to help students meet the District of Columbia Public
Schools (DCPS) graduation requirements, we also offer elective
courses. Some examples include: biology, algebra, creative writing,
and a foreign language. Participation in these courses enable
students to earn Carnegie Units in order to earn a high school
diploma.
In addition to academics, students also learn social skills
through our behavior modification system. Through out the day,
students earn points based on their behavior. These behaviors
include staying on task, being respectful to staff and peers,
and following staff directions period. As students demonstrate
model behavior, they earn exciting privileges. These include
working at our café, being a host to visitors, going
on field trips, and participating in school wide activities.
This is just a sampling of the exciting perks that students
enjoy by attending the High Road Academy of Washington DC.
