About the School
High Road School of Hamden opened in September of 2002. High Road School serves students from all school districts, grades 7-12. We specialized in serving students with learning problems with accompanying social and emotional challenges. We have a full time job coach that assists students in finding vocational opportunities while they are attending school as well as future placements. A social worker is available for individual, group and crisis counseling. The occupational therapy and speech therapy services are provided on a n as needed basis. Because we individualize our program and our behavioral interventions, we are able to meet each student at the appropriate skill and performance level and help students build their confidence and competence. The High Road School of Hamden has a partnership with the CT School of Electronics where students are able to take courses like automotive, electronics or medical assistance. This helps to prepare them for future employment as well as a reduced tuition if they decide to attend the school after graduation.

Student Success Story
David began at High Road School of Hamden in September of 2002. He came to us from Hamden High School. Attendance and behavioral frustration led him to an out of district placement. David struggled with the large environment of the high school. Initially, David was skeptical of the program and what it could offer him. However, he quickly learned the individualized approach that we utilize to ensure student success. David began to attend regularly and complete academic assignments. He began to feel more confidence in his abilities. Currently, David will be graduating this year in June 2004. He is taking the SAT exam and applying to local colleges for next fall. He is excited about the prospect of college and would like to be a personal trainer or begin a pre-med program. David is also participating in an internship program where he assists at an animal shelter in New Haven. We are very proud of David and all the positive changes we have seen in his life.
