Our shared mission at KIDS 1 is to build the confidence
and competence of students with special needs through
personalized, academic interventions. Ultimately, we want
our students to leave our schools with a renewed sense
of confidence in their own abilities along with the skills
and knowledge they will need to live as independently
as possible in the future. We accomplish our mission by
getting students to experience success in the classroom
early on. Once the child has mastered a skill, we encourage
the child to take on new learning challenges--always with
support and guidance from our staff. As each success reinforces
the child's belief in himself or herself as a capable
student, the child builds a positive cycle of achievement
and self-worth.
Helping students to be successful was our motivation when
David Winikur and I founded our first school in 1986,
the High Road School. Three years later, we opened the
High Road Upper School for older students. With the successful
operation of these programs, we built a strong foundation
for the schools and learning centers which have since
followed.
We aim to be the most respected and admired education
provider in the country for students with unique needs.
Each of our schools and learning centers focuses on educating
the student with special needs who has not been successful
in the traditional classroom setting.
I am proud of KIDS 1 and I am proud of the faculty and
staff who work each day in our schools to bring about
the kind of world-class education programs that all our
students need and deserve. Again, thank you for your interest
