About
the School
High Road Baltimore serves students with emotional disturbance
and autism, ages 7-21, grades 2-12. Our primary focus is to
build our student’s confidence and competence through
personalized interventions. Our staff provides students a warm,
fun and structured environment in which to develop and grow.
Here at Baltimore, we offer students numerous incentives to
encourage and foster their success. Our Team Sports program
sets us apart as our staff and students join together 2-4 times
a week to compete in various sporting activities in which our
students learn sportsmanship, cooperation, integrity, and respect
for others. Fun is the focus when we host our semi-annual Sleep-Overs
in October and May. It’s a time for staff and students
to participate in seasonal activities like hayrides, swimming
and cook-outs. Our flagship Transition program helps ready our
students for the world of work while they experience a reality-based
work environment.
Success Story
Cory enrolled in HRS in February of 2001. He came to us as a
tentative, timid, cautious and unsure young man. His anxieties
often prevented Cory from joining in activities, participating
in social events and interacting with peers and staff. He would
often disengage, withdrawing from his peers. High Road Baltimore
provided Cory with a safe and structured environment where he
could learn, grow and blossom.
“I got bullied at my other school and people used to make
fun of me because of my anxieties”, stated Cory, “But
here the staff was so nice and they worked with me to help me
overcome my fears; they made me feel comfortable. Not only did
they help me with my academics and I started to learn, but I
didn’t get teased or made fun of. I was able to participate
in activities like football and even though I wasn’t good,
no one made me feel bad. So I got better and now really like
playing. Now I am on the highest level, I do projects that serve
the school and the students and I give tours to visitors and
tutor my peers. I feel like an important part of my school and
am a popular student.”
