“Where
Teens Dream, Believe, and Achieve.”
On June 5, 2003, High Road Academy of Prince George’s
County (HRA) hosted their first annual Career Day. Mrs.
Patricia Newby, HRA reading specialist, and several of
our high school students, organized the event to offer
our students the opportunity to be exposed to a variety
of careers. As the chairperson, Mrs. Newby invited several
HRA parents as well as people from the community to address
our students. Among these people was Ms. Billie Dent Armstrong,
professional race car driver, and Mr. Mike McLeese, Director
of Athletics. The program began with a speech by HRA student
and master of ceremony Charles Dixon. In his speech he
discussed reaching your goals and achieving your dreams;
which set the tune for the ceremony. One after another,
the lecturers spoke on characteristics such as motivation,
dedication, and perseverance. The speakers stressed the
importance of an education combined with the above characteristics
when approaching post secondary and/or career options.
The students showed their appreciation with a standing
ovation at the end of the event. High Road Academy of
Prince George’s County would like to thank Mrs.
Patricia Newby, students of HRA and the speakers for a
job well done.
