About the School
The High Road School of Northern Virginia opened its doors in
January of 2002, to meet the educational and social-emotional
needs of students with emotional and learning disabilities.
Our school’s population includes students ranging in age
from 8 to 18, as well as providing transitional services to
student 18 to 21. All students at the NOVA school, present with
a variety of issues, which have impacted their ability to be
successful learners, these issues include ADHD, Asperger’s,
Depression, and students with behavioral challenges.
The Nova school offers a full academic curriculum based upon
current Virginia standards, along with speech and language therapy,
occupational therapy, and individual and group counseling. All
academics are IEP driven, and all IEP goals and objectives are
closely monitored, and students are taught in small group and
one on one situations.
Student at the NOVA school benefit from a structured program,
which provides key elements to success: small classroom size,
positive reinforcement, and a sound behavioral management program,
which provides for structure and supervision, enabling the students
to achieve academic and personal success. The key to our behavior
program I to help the student to understand the motivation of
their behavior and to then learn proactive coping techniques
for the issues, which they face.
