About the School
At High Road Academy, we specialize in educating students with
learning disabilities. We pride ourselves on one overriding
mission: to make each student feel successful in the classroom
and the community though academic achievement, improved self-esteem
and self-confidence.
Our program provides strong learning environment to increase
each student’s self-worth and academic success. We develop
a personalized and individualized educational program for each
child, which is implemented through a one on one or two on one
teacher pupil ratio. Through this combination of individual
education and small group instruction, we continue to build
confidence and competence in every student.
Our school is based in Bowie, Maryland and has been open since
November 2002. We are a private, Intensity V program, serving
students ages 11 through 21, who have a primary diagnosis of
learning disability. In addition to our academic program, we
offer speech/language therapy, occupational therapy, physical
therapy, and individual counseling.
At High Road Academy of Prince George’s County we pride
ourselves on building student confidence and competence through
personalized academic interventions. Our school has demonstrated
to be the gateway for individualized academic instruction and
a success maker for many student during its second school year.
Student Success Story 1
Troy Peterson is a thirteen year old, eighth grader; he started
at High Road Academy of Prince George’s County (HRA) in
the fall of 2002. Troy attended HRA because of social anxiety
issues. He would become very impulsive and impatient at times
with his teachers in the public school setting. While attending
HRA, Troy has grown socially as well as academically. He has
learned to become more calm and patient in the classroom. He
does not get frustrated easily and his impulsivity has reduced
drastically. In addition, Troy has maintained a 4.0 GPA, throughout
his academic studies at HRA. Troy is always ready to advocate
for other students and himself. He is energetic, forthright
student in and out of the classroom. Troy’s personality
demonstrates confidence and competence, which positively influences
his peers.

Story 2
Qaaree is a thirteen year old eighth grader; he began at HRA
in January 2003. When Qaaree entered HRA he was a seventh grader
reading on a first grade level. He felt as if he would never
learn how to read or become successful. After his transition
to HRA, Qaaree was able to receive one on one tutorial with
his classroom teacher and our reading specialist on a daily
basis. Qaaree and his mother both saw improvements in his reading.
Qaaree has been successful with our Lexia Reading Program designed
especially for non-readers and his reading level has improved
from a first grade to third grade level. Qaaree understand that
he still has a ling way to go, but he knows if he continues
with his daily reading instruction with instructors and independently,
he will continue to be successful.
