About the School
Sierra School is a blended program providing special education
along with mental health services. Sierra School's population
includes students ranging from ages 10 to 18. Many of these
students present with a variety of problems such as: learning
disabilities, serious emotional and behavioral problems, Attention
Deficit Disorder with hyperactivity, Bio Chemical imbalances
and family relationship issues.
In response to the I.E.P. (Individual Education Program) mandate,
we offer a full curriculum of academics in conjunction with
on-going counseling, behavioral management, individual and group
therapy, peer group counseling, as well as close supervision
for the students regarding their I.E.P. goals.
The professional staff at Sierra School is made up of multi-disciplinary
team consisting of credentialed special education instructors,
a licensed psychotherapist (LCSW & MFCC), B.A. level instructional
assistants, B.S.W., MFCC, and M.S.W. interns from California
State University, Sacramento and National University.
Sierra School believes in educating its students from a dual
perspective. Integrating mental health services with special
education addresses the students' needs in a systematic and
holistic fashion. With the safety that comes from providing
good behavioral management supervision and structure, students
are better able to focus and perform academically.
Sierra School provides a comprehensive mental health program
to better serve the needs of its students. Therapy which focuses
on empowerment, building ego strength, self esteem, self worth
and freeing up internal pain, can help to increase the emotional
stability and sense of well being for our student population.
Sierra School works diligently to transition students into the
public school system. Should transition to community living
become the more desirable course of action, Sierra School facilitates
this adjustment as well.
