About the School
Sierra School of Sonoma County is one of four Sierra Schools in California, and one of 26 schools operated by the parent corporation, KIDS 1, Incorporated. The seventeen years of growth and success of KIDS 1, Incorporated are apparent in the daily operation of Sierra School of Sonoma County.

Sierra School of Sonoma is dedicated to serving students who have not been successful in mainstream education as a result of learning and behavior challenges. We design our programs to focus on the specified learning strengths and needs of each student. We offer personalized academic interventions via the use of extensive tutorial instruction. Sierra School provides vocational related skills through the use of modern technology on site, and monitored work experiences off site.

Sierra School of Sonoma County uses positive behavior modification techniques as well as mental health techniques to increase academic abilities, develop social skills, and cultivate proper classroom behavior. Our primary goal is to expedite the transition of students back to the public school and into the community through the building of confidence and competence. Nothing is as reinforcing in a student’s life as success, and we strive to ensure that success is a part of each student’s daily experience.

Sierra School of Sonoma County serves students between the ages of ten and twenty. Typically these students have either a Specific Learning Disability, a Severe Emotional Disturbance, Autism, a Developmental Disability, or Other Health Impairments. Counseling, Speech, and Behavioral Intervention are included in the basic rate.

Student Success Story
Xavier has been chosen as our “star student” at Sierra School of Sonoma County for a number of reasons. Xavier has increasingly become a role model to other students both academically and socially since his arrival at our school in April of 2003. Xavier is also currently working in the Sierra School’s transition program as an attendance recorder and office assistant. Xavier looks forward to developing his computer skills in the transition program at Sierra Schools, and in the future at a computer technology school where he will learn the skills to become a computer technician. The staff at our school all agree that it is a delight to teach Xavier because of his polite presence and strong work ethic.
